Iqra Academy lift National Title and become Double Cup Winners

Peterborough based School team were crowned National Champions at The Association of Muslim Schools National Tournament. The team travelled to Coventry for the U13 Girls 5-a-side football competition after having already being crowned the AMS Inter-Faith Midlands Football Champions in May of this year. Iqra Academy beat teams from Bolton, Birmingham and Leicester on the way to winning this annual competition. Iqra had to come from 3 – 1 down to earn a 4 – 4 draw against Midlands Finalists Pioneers Academy from Birmingham. The two teams then met again in the Semi-Finals, where Iqra’s superior fitness came into play, earning them a 3 – 0 win. Iqra then played Bolton Muslim Girls School in the Final, Bolton already having been crowned AMS Inter-Faith Northern Champions, but it was the Midlands champions that came out on top of this encounter with a 5 – 1 win. Iqra Academy were the only unbeaten team in the competition with six wins and one draw, scoring 38 goals and conceding ten goals in their seven matches.

In becoming the Interfaith Midlands Champions, Iqra Academy became the first Muslim Faith School to ever win this annual competition. The achievement of winning a National Title is made even more amazing, when you consider that the School was not even playing any competitive sport just twelve months ago.
